Twitter is lucky most people are not creative

In case you missed it, funny man Aziz Ansari (yeah, the Indian guy from Parks & Rec) pulled a pretty crafty and hilarious stunt on Twitter earlier today.

He used the traditional RT format to make it look like the LL Bean corporation was insulting his comedy, his minor movie roles and his mother.

Of course, LL Bean didn’t actually tweet any of those things. That’s the wonder (and danger) of retweeting. You’re trusting that the person being quoted said those words in the first place. Official retweets are not susceptible to this type of prank, but the traditional RT style is so prevalent that there may be no way to prevent imitations.

Libel and slander: welcome to the 21st century!
